ZIDANE
ON BECKHAM
World footballer of the Year
Zinedine Zidane has urged Manchester United's England captain David
Beckham to consider playing in Italy's Serie A. Zidane, who plays
for Juventus, was quoted in the Sun newspaper on Friday as saying
that he thought Beckham would do well in Italy. 'David Beckham is
one of the best players in the world. Everyone has seen that with
his performance for United and England over the years,' Zidane said
at the launch of a new adidas advertisement campaign.

Both
Zidane and Beckham have endorsement deals with the German sports
goods manufacturer. 'I know there are plenty of teams in Italy who
would be delighted to sign him. I am not so sure United would sell
because he is a very valuable player for them and has helped them
do so well in Europe. 'But if they do, I would like to think David
would take up the challenge and move to Italy. 'This is one of the
best leagues in the world and I am sure David would be a very good
player here.'
Newspaper reports in Britain earlier this week suggested fellow
Italian club AC Milan were interested in signing Beckham, but the
club's vice-president Adriano Gallini denied the reports. 'We tried
for Beckham last year and Manchester United said a clear 'no'. I
don't see why they would now say 'yes',' Gallini said.
